Union┬┤s syndicates might kidnap vessels at Puerto Ordaz


Growing protest and disagreements at Puerto Ordaz carried out by local unions and syndicates against the local shippers might represent kidnappings and unofficial prohibition to sail to vessels and crews.
 
Recently, a vessel got delayed for 5 days during a sort of kidnapping made by the local unions of the companies associated to the CVG (Corporaci├│n Venezolana de Guyana: Ferrominera, Sidor, Venalum, Orinoco Iron, etc) as a retaliation agaisnt the government apparently for not honoring the collective agreement. During a very risky situation when the pilot was boarding the ship before sailing, people armed with fireguns identified with the local unions treathened the pilot, agents and crew if they made the attempt to sail for which the unberthing maneuvers got cancelled. Unfortunately all the authorities such as the police, national guard, prosecution and  maritime authority didn’t gave much attention to the ship´s requests for security and clearance and didn’t treated the case as a kidnapping for which police assistance wasn’t ordered. An strategy to follow up if such situation takes, place is to make all the diplomat noise as possible by contacting the embassies of both the flag and those of the crewps nationality. In case more days passes with no results a wirt of amparo might be a solution given that according to the Venezuelan constitution , such a process must be expedite and a quick restitution of the former juridical situation must secured by the court.
 
Given the political reprecursions it could bring to the government to use the national guard to disperse the unions, the public entities such as the national prosecution, the police and the national guard aren´t being proactive on resolving such situations promptly and therefore the ship´s schedule might get importantly delayed.
